AJ Manufacturing’s Responsive HVAC Solution for Life-Saving Medical Facilities

For this next installment in our Project Spotlight series that feature our innovative solutions for critical environments and more, we are again focused on our work in healthcare. This time for the KU Cancer Center Critical Environment.

At AJ Manufacturing, we develop lasting solutions to benefit medical facilities, their patients, and also healthcare workers. This practice area is important to us, as we value the contributions that healthcare professionals make to ensure that patients receive the essential – and often life-saving – treatments they provide, so we treat projects like this with the utmost importance.

Aware that our commercial HVAC manufacturing contributes to this charge motivates us to continue our legacy of building air distribution products that support quality healthcare services. Whether we’re providing solutions for the National Cancer Institute or a community hospital, we’re manufacturing with people in mind – and how we can serve them best.

For our spotlight, we’re highlighting our work at The University of Kansas/KU Med’s Cancer Ward, for which we designed our SSLF Series Laminar Flow Ceiling Diffuser. Now, patients can receive excellent treatment in an environment shielded from potential hospital-borne contaminants.

University of Kansas/KU Med’s Cancer Center: A Critical Environment Dedicated to Human Health

The National Cancer Institute has designated KU Med’s Cancer Center as one of just 53 treatment centers nationwide. A comprehensive care center, patients receive aggressive, innovative cancer treatment in an effort to save lives while eradicating this disease.

When KU Med transformed an entire floor of their hospital into a treatment ward, they needed to ensure that this new space included a highly-effective layer of protection for patients. While receiving therapies, cancer patients are immunocompromised, and to protect them from hospital-acquired infection, AJ Manufacturing was asked to develop air distribution solutions as a primary front in ensuring patient safety.

How AJ Manufacturing Provided Protection for Patients in KU Med’s Critical Environment

AJ Manufacturing designed an air distribution product called the SSLF Series Laminar Flow Ceiling Diffuser to bring uniformly distributed, conditioned, filtered air to this treatment floor, thus providing a layer of protection for patients receiving cancer treatment.

AJ Manufacturing designs its ceiling diffusers to harness laminar flow technology, delivering uniform, low-velocity air into a space at a consistent rate. These diffusers create curtains of filtered air directly over the areas that need it most.

Many industries rely on this technology to provide clean air in critical environments so their patients are safe. In the healthcare industry, ceiling diffusers can also be installed in operating rooms above an operating table to ensure that this area receives consistent, high-quality air while critical medical actions occur.

An In-Depth Look at Our SSLF Series Laminar Flow Ceiling Diffusers for Critical Environments

In the case of University of Kansas/KU Med’s Cancer Center, our ceiling diffusers were installed in several areas on this treatment floor to ensure high-quality air distribution for patients receiving chemotherapy and radiation treatment for cancer.

We understood the vital nature of this request from the Cancer Center, so we got to work on a product that would ensure reliable, effective, conditioned air.

The SSLF Series Laminar Flow Ceiling Diffusers feature the following specifications, among many more:

  • Stainless steel construction
  • #4 satin polished finish
  • An easily-removable face for cleaning
  • Key safety features to protect the product from accidental dropping
  • Versatile features for connecting to ductwork

This air distribution product also includes the following optional features for critical environments:

  • Antimicrobial epoxy powder coat finish for an added-layer of protection from contaminants
  • Tunable LED lighting provides maximum visibility and ceiling space, and offers a solution that doesn’t require hanging lights that impede the vital work of medical professionals
