The shift to modular operating room ceiling systems picks up steam.

With several important advantages over traditional “stick built” construction, modular operating room ceiling systems are becoming the preferred option for more and more hospitals, both for new construction and renovation projects. The benefits of modular ceiling construction – including AJ’s SS-CARES and CARES systems – include:

Complete quality control

AJ ceiling systems are manufactured in our state of-the-art, quality-controlled factory – by a trained and experienced workforce that builds our systems day in and day out – assuring reliable, consistent results. With our modular systems you will not need to rely on local labor, which may or may not have expertise in the specific system and components they are installing. Plus, quality control is much more difficult on a construction site, with multiple contractors working in the same area.

Faster, reliable delivery times

Our pre-engineered, prefabricated systems dramatically reduce both design and construction time, with onsite assembly in a fraction of the time of traditional construction – making delays much more unlikely. Onsite construction not only takes much longer, but is also subject to delays caused by everything from local labor availability, to material deliveries, to conflicts between various trades, and even bad weather.

Lower costs with firm pricing

By prefabricating in a controlled environment, then quickly and easily assembling on site, we keep costs significantly lower and more predictable than traditional construction, eliminating or minimizing cost overruns. Onsite labor costs, on the other hand, will vary by location and will always be higher than prefab. They are also more difficult to quote accurately and can increase unexpectedly due to overtime and/or construction conflicts.

Minimal, shorter disruptions

Because the majority of the construction is done in our facility, our ceiling systems install much faster and quieter than stick-built ceilings, with far less tradespeople and equipment, while generating far less dust, debris and scrap. Plus, there is no on-site welding or other hot work – resulting in minimal disruptions to surrounding areas, and no fire hazards.

Single source responsibility

With AJ ceilings, we handle everything from design – including structural engineering calculations and drawings when needed – to complete construction, including coordination with all necessary trades. So unlike traditional construction, you don’t have to deal with managing and scheduling a variety of different vendors, potentially including architects, engineers, electricians, welders, fire protection, medical gas and others.

Easy future retrofits

The modular design of our ceiling also simplifies future retrofits, as the individual components can be unassembled and reconfigured to meet changing needs. Future changes to stick built ceilings typically result in major renovation projects that often require completely tearing out the old ceiling and rebuilding.
