Learn How AJ Manufacturing’s Air Distribution Systems Support Our Clients’ Needs
AJ Manufacturing, the leading manufacturer of air distribution systems, air distribution products, and critical environment solutions, is committed to meeting regulatory requirements and standards. Our manufacturing – whether it’s for clean room environments or for any commercial HVAC needs – helps clients to achieve a complete solution for indoor air quality, ventilation, energy efficiency, and more.
Two regulatory bodies, the U.S. Department of Energy, as well as ASHRAE, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, have established particular regulatory requirements and compliance standards that are relevant to share with our clients as we move closer to 2023.
Why is this important for our clients to know? If you are considering a completely new solution for your commercial HVAC systems, or you need updates or reengineering to meet new business needs or priorities, you will want to ensure that what you intend to implement meets DOE and ASHRAE standards.
In this article, we will thoroughly cover these requirements, so you can stay informed as you and your stakeholders make important decisions about HVAC equipment. Further, we will describe how AJ Manufacturing addresses these requirements with state-of-the-art solutions we’ve been perfecting and advancing throughout our rich history in commercial HVAC manufacturing.
We are ready to meet your needs – and can even assist with the process of understanding these standards further while we build for you. AJ Manufacturing has exceptional knowledge, capability, and future-forward expertise to ensure that your business gets the solutions it needs.
The Department of Energy’s Energy-Efficiency Standards for Commercial HVAC
Significant updates are here for energy efficiency in new commercial HVAC systems, effective January 1, 2023. These efficiency standards represent the second update from the DOE in five years.
The first phase of updates came in 2018, standardizing a 13 percent increase in energy efficiency for commercial HVAC products. The new phase of standardization concerns part-load efficiency, also known as IEER (Integrated Energy Efficiency Ratio). Understanding IEER is less complex than it may appear. Essentially, to truly understand a system’s energy efficiency, it must be analyzed in the context of specific, realistic climate conditions including humidity levels and outdoor temperature. IEER is, therefore, a formula that provides a real-time picture of a system’s energy-efficiency in reference to the system’s larger environs (i.e. where it is integrated – hence the “I” in IEER). The DOE’s new standard for 2023 requires a 15 percent increase in energy efficiency for IEER.
AJ Manufacturing remains informed about standards, regulations, and requirements at the federal level – and internationally. Our air distribution systems for critical environment solutions (and all our clients’ needs) are designed to interlock with your updated business’ commercial HVAC system, providing the precise conditions you need. In fact, our air distribution products aid in the efficiency of your system based on our engineering knowledge that is informed by your larger needs in this area. As your partners in HVAC, a great deal of our critical thinking goes into how we complement your business’ overall needs.
Air-Quality Standards from ASHRAE for Your Commercial HVAC System
To shift away from energy efficiency, ASHRAE also provides standards for commercial HVAC systems in general, including highly-specific standards based on your industry. For instance, we specialize in designing critical environment solutions to coincide with ASHRAE’s Standard 170, which was implemented for the ventilation of healthcare facilities.
The most recent changes (2022) to ASHRAE’s standards come in the form of revisions to Standard 62.1, Ventilation and Acceptable Indoor Air Quality. This standard delineates the minimum ventilation rates for indoor air quality. Those minimums are designed for an acceptable environment in which negative health effects can potentially be avoided.
Additionally, Standard 62.1’s revision considers all aspects of a building’s commercial HVAC system – from equipment to controls. An appendix to Standard 62.1, which discusses Standard 170, the standard concerning indoor air quality for healthcare environments, is particularly notable; therefore, your healthcare operations can now understand Standard 62.1 in the context of your specific environmental needs.
Revisions to Standard 62.1 are important at AJ Manufacturing. Part of our charge as manufacturers of air distribution systems and air distribution products is to understand that indoor air quality and ventilation require many key parts that are integrated into a comprehensive system. Efficiency and quality are not just the work of one piece of equipment. Therefore, when you work with AJ Manufacturing, you’ll find individual – and customizable – products you can rely on to meet essential standards for critical environment solutions and more.
